Jen's Warmest Welcome onboard Ambition

I was lucky enough to be a guest for the day on the Ambassador ship, Ambition, while she was in the Cruise Terminal. We were greeted by our hosts, Louise and Andrew and, after a short check in, went to the ship’s theatre to see rehearsals for the Nashville Nights show. Although the performers weren’t in costume, we were able to get the flavour of the show’s feel and energy.

From there we were taken to a private room for coffee and scrummy homemade biscuits. On our tour we visited The Brontë Library which is a quiet space for reading and it included a special little cubby-hole for those who wanted that extra bit of peace and quiet. Guests are encouraged to borrow books to read during their voyage and leave any of their own books behind for others to enjoy.

This area is typical of the more unusual spaces on the ship such as Aces and Eights (set up with tables for playing cards and board games) and the Grafton Street craft area, where guests can try their hand at jewellery making, mosaic decorating and calligraphy for a small extra charge.

Following cabin inspections (the suites on Deck 12 are rather special as the Premium and Deluxe versions are a generous size and have a comfortable balcony area) we visited the Green Sea Spa. The Aroma Sauna smelled wonderful, and the range of treatments was extensive and very reasonably priced.

On the top deck there are several seating areas, a swimming pool and a splash pool. It’s nice that guests can either be part of the fun or, if they prefer, they can sit in a quieter area. The Pool Bar and Consulate Bar are also up there so guests don’t need to travel far from their sunbeds to get a cool drink.

The ship has several dining and bar options. These include Lupino’s, a Mediterranean speciality restaurant and Saffron, which is an Asian speciality restaurant. Eating in these restaurants incurs a surcharge but passengers who are onboard for several days might like to try one of them as a treat. We were served a delicious lunch where we were offered a selection of dishes from each of the restaurants so we could get a taste of the different cuisines available. I chose the Indian Butter Chicken for my main course and can definitely recommend it!

Throughout the visit the key points that stood out to me were the warm welcome we received from all the staff, the quality of the food and the fact there are lots of great places to relax with a coffee or glass of wine. Thank you to our hosts, Louise and Andrew, for their generous hospitality.
